Built-in duplex printing and copying. Auto Image Fix feature that automatically optimizes your photos. With built-in networking, everyone in the office can easily share the device. Vivid Photos and Laser-Quality Text--Fast! Canon's newly developed Pigment Reaction (PgR) ink system incorporates a higher-intensity black pigment, a clear ink, and specially formulated color pigment inks for superior results for all your prints. This unique system coats the paper with clear ink before it reaches the print head, helping the colors more effectively bond together for better saturation and brightness. And since each color comes in its own tank, you only need to replace the color that runs out, reducing waste and saving you money. Offering prints at up to 4800 x 1200 dpi color resolution, photos exhibit continuous tone and look like they are fresh from the photo lab. In addition to the PgR ink system, the printer has a print head capable of producing two-picoliter ink droplets for exacting detail. You don't have to wait long for your prints either--a 4 x 6-inch borderless print takes only about 43 seconds. When printing business documents, the MX7600 churns out prints at up to 28 pages per minute (ppm) in mono, and 23 ppm in color. Because the printer has two paper feeders, less time needs to be spent loading or changing media. With a built-in duplexer, you don't have to waste your time standing by the printer flipping sheets when you want to print on both sides. And you don't have to wait for the machine to slowly start up either; the unit is ready for use in about five seconds after power up. The printer is network-ready thanks to its built-in Ethernet connection. Just connect it to your home or office network, and your networked computers can share the printer. The printer also features a built-in memory card slot that allows you to print photos straight from a memory card without a computer. With the printer's LCD, you can look at the pictures you want printed, and with Auto Image Fix, picture quality is automatically optimized. PgR technology uses a clear ink along with pigments for the best print quality. Duplex Scanning and Copying The MX7600 features a built-in Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) that holds up to 35 sheets and enables automatic duplexing for copies and scans, leaving you free to work on other tasks while the printer does all the work. The scanner offers up to 4800 dpi resolution at a 48-bit color depth for scans that pick up even the most minute detail. And thanks to Canon's advanced copy technology, the MX7600 copies graphics and documents with faithful accuracy. High-Speed Fax The device can achieve Super G3 fax speeds (33.6 Kbps), which allows the fastest fax transfers, and it can fax both black-and-white and color pages. The device's built-in memory will store 100 coded speed dials and up to 250 incoming pages--features that are especially useful for long faxes or if you run out of paper. The Canon MX7600 All-In-One Printer is compatible with Windows (including Vista) and Macintosh operating systems. The printer measures 19.7 x 21.1 x 10.1-inches (WxHxD) and weighs 36.6 pounds. It is backed by a 1-year warranty. What's in the Box: Canon MX7600 printer, five cleaning sheets, document kit, ink tanks (PGI-7 and PGI-9), power cord, print head, telephone line cable. The MX7600 provides printing, faxing, scanning, and copying all from one device.

All functions range from adequate to very good. Pros: The scanner is very good, with an auto feeder, and scan quality is good for both documents and photos. The print speed and quality is good. Having 2 paper sources (bottom plain paper cassette, rear feeder) is a time saver. The auto-duplex printing is very handy. Fax quality is good. Auto feeding for faxes is nice, but not something I will use that much. Builtin networking, so I don't need to have a PC continuously powered up when the family laptops want to print. Photo prints have good detail and shading. Printing directly from various memory cards and cameras is easy. Cons: Photo prints colors need some tweaking. It's all a bit bright with a tendency toward a very slight pink cast. Admittedly, I have not done that many color photos as yet. Tones and shades are not as accurate as a printer with more colors. This one has 6 ink tanks, but 2 of them are shades of black, so printing must be done with 4 colors. This printer is adequate for amateur snaps, but won't replace a dedicated photo printer. No scanning of film or negatives. Printer is large but that's a given with this many functions. 43 of 44 people found the following review helpful. Not as top of the line as it should be! By Roger Sadowsky I am a very big fan of Canon printers and All-In Ones. I previously have had the MP780 and the MP830 of which I had no complaints and would have rated 4-5 stars. My complaints with the 7600 are: 1) slow to print first page 2) cannot use regular paper from the rear paper loader (only the cassette). 3) a bit noisy before and after printing. 4) ink only available online If I had to buy again, I would go with the MP850. 38 of 43 people found the following review helpful. MX 7600 extremely disappointing, noisy and no ink By C. Barwis The Canon MX 7600 is very noisy. It annoyingly clicks and clacks for minutes after it is done printing, and while speed of page printing itself is OK, the printer waits for up to a minute to start printing many times. I've had the machine for 2 weeks and already it has started jamming paper every 15 sheets or so. And the ink required by the MX 7600 is not sold over the counter by any store in New York City. No stores even list the ink, so you have to buy it online. And Canon's support dept. was absolutely no help whatsoever with coming up with a solution. How can Canon launch a product and not provide the ink anywhere! I replaced a Canon MP 780 which I liked, after it wore out, with this MX 7600 and am extremely disappointed and will now try another company's products. One last inconvenience to note, unlike the Canon MP780, paper for normal use in the MX7600 cannot be loaded from the rear, but must be loaded from the front cassette which holds less paper. Be more informed The new international ISO print speed standard Print speed is critically important when buying a printer or all-in-one. But how do you compare print speeds when different manufacturers measure in different ways? Now you can. Much like the "MPG" ratings on new cars, there's now a new industry standard for measuring print speed, which allows for an "apples-to-apples" comparison between different printer models and brands. The International Organization for Standardization (widely known as ISO) developed this industry approved and internationally accepted standard, specifically for ink jet printers and all-in-ones. It measures "out of the box" (default) print speeds using "real world" printing scenarios, so you can be sure you're getting a product that performs at the speed you need. Engineered for small business and home office Epson understands that small businesses develop ideas and opportunities fast — that’s why the WorkForce 500 all-in-one was built with your printing, copying, scanning and faxing needs in mind. You’ll not only appreciate its ability to print high quality documents fast, but also the convenient, built-in features that maximize productivity. Quickly fax important documents with the robust memory and speed dial storage. Use the included OCR software to turn documents into editable text and easily digitize those meeting notes. Or, use the scan-to-PDF function to share various forms and documents. The WorkForce 500 uses up to 3x less power than a laser printer2 and has built-in double-sided printing3 so you can save paper. What’s more, individual ink cartridges allow you to replace only the color that you need. And, the quick-drying formula lets you handle documents and photos right away — no drying time needed! Never Liked All-in-One's, but I Love this Unit from Epson By givpilot I've never been a fan of All-in-One's because I always felt too much was compromised; I just wouldn't settle for a poor printer, or scanner, or copier or fax machine just for the convenience of having everything in one box. Epson has changed the playing field, however. I'm not saying Epson has merged the absolute best of each of those pieces of equipment, but they have produced a remarkably well designed and engineered product with minimal compromise. The printer is excellent, the text approaches laser quality and the copier and fax work fine, the 30 page automatic document feeder works without a hick-up -- and what a joy that is!. The scanner is fast, operates with very easy to use intuitive software and it produces excellent text and photo scans. Epson also includes OCR software with the unit. Yes, you can buy a better printer... there certainly are printers that print faster and print photos better (I have a $1,000 photo printer that I use for the "serious" stuff) but this one works fine for the everyday tasks. And there are better scanners, this one won't do negatives or slides, for example, but for most everyday scanning tasks it's absolutely fine. And as far as fax and copy machines go, the fax and copies are first rate and better than every other "home office" machine I've tried. All in all, Epson has a winner with the Workforce 500. I really only needed a new fax machine, but the price on this unit was so low I thought I might as well try it and at least I'd have a backup printer if I needed one. Despite my preconceived notions, besides being a great fax machine, it turned out to be a very good printer, scanner and copier. I guess you learn something everyday. Setup was quick and the startup guide takes you step-by-step through the process with easy to follow pictures and text. I had the unit up and running within 15 minutes on a computer using Vista Home Premium. I'm delighted with my purchase and I use it frequently for my everyday printer and scanner needs. I don't think you'll be disappointed. 52 of 54 people found the following review helpful. Best all-in-one I've tried By Susan M I don't often write product reviews, but I've been so happy with my Epson WorkForce 500 since I got it that I had to write in. I've always used Epson printers before because I think the print and photo quality is the highest I've seen. I suffered along without a feeder because Epson didn't offer an all-in-one with one, so I am thrilled with the Epson 500 because in addition to being much faster than my previous printer, it has the feeder and the fax incorporated into the printer. In the first week after getting the Epson 500, I was able to pack up the fax machine on my desk that took up lots of space and save myself a trip to Staples(and the associated expense)to have a 40-page document copied (something I never would have done on a flat-bed printer). In terms of ease of use, I find it to be relatively intuitive. I did, however, have a little trouble on setup (I did not fully read the directions!) because the OK key was not always the default button to move on to the next step. Once I read the directions, though, it was extremely simple. In summary, I couldn't be more thrilled with my purchase - it's a fabulous home office printer with every feature you could want. 40 of 42 people found the following review helpful. Nice All-In-One By H. Ongaro Very nice All-In-One. It prints beautifully; crisp, clear, & bold. The photo printer works as well as my stylus photo printer. Great detail and color to the pictures. The fax works fine. I've faxed a couple of things. One had ten pages and I'm not sure if it was this fax or the fax on the other end, but while faxing the "transmission was interrupted" so I had to refax the last few pages. The scanner works OK. I've only used it twice to copy

By diljs First off, if you're in the market for a printer, you can't go wrong with a Canon. Canon printers consistently beat out the competition in independent tests for print quality. Their items are elegant, well designed, and most importantly, ink is affordable. We all know the razor and blade scheme: sell the printer below cost and make it up with pricey cartridges. Canon, however, saves you a lot of money by including the print head with the printer and not on each cartridge. Because of this, genuine Canon cartridges can be had for around $12, while 3rd party cartridges, which many claim work just as well, can be found for as low as $2. If you've already decided on a Canon multifunction, lets see which model is right for you. Canon's current market list is as follows: MP130 - New model, and the most affordable yet. Copy/Print/Scan 18ppm black, 13ppm color 2 ink tanks No auto sheet feeder! Card slots MP390 - Has a fax, About half the cost of the MP7xx's. Copy/Print/SCan/Fax 18ppm black, 12 ppm color 2 ink tanks card slots MP750 - Older model - exactly the same as mp780 but no fax. Copy/Print/Scan 25ppm black, 17 ppm color 5 ink tanks Built in Duplexing MP760 - New Model - geared towards photo enthusiasts. Copy/Print/Scan + Special Photo Features 25ppm black, 17 ppm color 5 ink tanks No auto sheet feeder! Built in Duplexing *Unique photo features: 2.5 inch lcd screen Built in film adapter for 35mm slides or negatives can print directly from negatives Card slots MP780 - Does it all except for the mp760 photo features. Copy/Print/Scan/Fax 25ppm black, 17 ppm color 5 ink tanks Built in Duplexing Now, let's look more closely at some key differences between these models: *Fax: The first thing you should do is decide if you need a fax or not. If you do, you should choose between the MP780 or the MP390. If not, don't rule those two out just yet, they may have have other features you can't live without. *Note: There is NO auto fax/telephone switching on these models if you wish to use the same line for faxes and voice calls. *Number of ink tanks: The next important thing you should look at is whether you want to be able to replace each color individually or not. The MP750, MP760 and MP780 all have 5 individual ink tanks (photo black, black, cyan, yellow, magenta), while the MP130 and MP390 have only 2 (black and tricolor). The cost of each cartridge is about the same, but you will waste some leftover ink by throwing out the MP130 or MP390's color cartridge when just one color runs out. *Photo printing: If you're planning on printing a lot of photos, you should probably go with an mp7xx. These have a superior print head, as well as the 5 separate ink tanks. The MP760 is especially noteable with all the features Canon has added specifically for photos. These come at a price however, as the MP760 does not share the auto sheet feeder of its MP750 and MP780 cousins, or the fax of the 780. *However - If you plan on printing directly from memory cards, beware! The mp750 and mp780 do not have card slots! The 2 cheaper models and the mp760 do. *Auto sheet feeder: The mp130 and mp760 do NOT have an auto sheet feeder. All 3 of the others do. An auto sheet feeder is very useful when doing a lot of scanning or faxing. *Duplexing: The mp7xx models each have built in duplexing. *Size: The mp7xx models weigh around 30 pounds and are quite big. The MP390 is a smaller, and weighs 18 pounds. The mp130 has a tiny footprint for a multifunction printer, and weighs 14 pounds. Some features that all of Canon's current MFPs share: *Copying: Each of these models has a copy function, and all have the same resolution (600x600 black, 1200x1200 color). *USB 2.0 connection *Pictbridge direct photo printing support *All 5 models are great looking and will complement almost any decor. My recommendations: If you want a great price on an

By A Customer I haven't had this scanner for very long, but I have already made more than 500 scans with it, and it's is awesome. The preview scan is ridiculously quick: I can get a good idea of what my scan will look like in less than a couple of seconds. The software bundle is very nice for a beginner, wherein you can make automatic scans for email, web, file outputs with the push of the respective button on the scanner body. I tried the software out a few times and I was impressed with the results, but if you're using Photoshop you don't need to install the whole package. It only took a few minutes to set the thing up and do my first scan, which was pretty cool.Once you gain more confidence with the different elements in a scan (namely the relationship image size and resolution have with file size) you can use TWAIN for a more manual approach. This allows you to adjust your settings based on what your requirements for your final project are. For example, I could scan a postage stamp-sized picture at a high resolution and enlarge it into an 8" x 10" photo or larger and the quality would still look pretty good. Your final scan speed will depend on the resolution you've selected , but it's still fast at higher resolutions. The lower the resolution, the faster the scan time.I love using TWAIN, especially since it only took a few trial runs to figure it out. It's calculations for file size, resolution, and image size are all right there, so there's no guess work needed from you. Epson also provides pretty good documentation for doing things manually for your first time (like a reference table for your final output on projects for web, negatives, photos, text, etc.). The color has been consistently sharp and the resolution very crisp, on both the flatbed and the transparency unit.Notice, however, that this is not a portable scanner. It's bigger than some on the market and it is powered by an external power supply. But it is perhaps the best model on the market for projects that require excellent quality whether your project is personal or semi-profesional. 54 of 55 people found the following review helpful. Good for slides and negs, excellent for prints! By skunktrain I haven't printed anything out with the images I've scanned (yet) so I can't comment on that. All I know is that I needed a decent slide scanner, for an inexpensive price. This one satisfies that need.I find that all scans are on the "warm" side - there's a slight yellowish cast to the pictures. This is easy to get out quickly, using the bundled Photoshop Elements (or in my case, I used Photoshop 6). By the way, do you realize that Photoshop Elements is just thrown in with this scanner? And that it is a well-reviewed graphics software program that retails on its own for a respectable price? And that there is also a coupon (limited time offer - until 6/02) that allows you to buy the FULL version of Photoshop at a fantastic discount? (Half off, or thereabouts.) WHAT a deal! Something to think about if you want to get into Photoshop!Anyway, I found my slide scans to be of decent quality. Bear in mind, I am not exceedingly picky, because I have gone through several "consumer level" scanners with a slide attachment, and they all were pretty bad. So the fact that this one wasn't awful like all the others delighted me. But to be brutally honest, the slide scans are not all that sharp at higher resolutions (I scanned at 720 PPI). And sometimes the color needs extra tweaking. But I have been able to fix up and size down (and sharpen) my slide scans just fine. They look great for web images (even large wallpaper-sized web pictures), and I am guessing, are fine for printing on an ink-jet printer. (However, I found that my some of my darker and more underexposed slide scans didn't look that great, and required more Photoshop adjustments.

We were required to get a digital scanner for our office and our company standard unit costs around $8,000. The person who handled the selection for us happened to know someone who purchased an HP Digital Sender and raved about it. We purchased ours for just over $3,000 saving our company $5,000! I have to add that that $8,000 unit I mentioned only scanned in B&W and the HP Digital Sender scans in both B&W and color! Other than having the machine installed by one of our IT people who wasn't familiar with the machine's operation and gave us no manual AND occasional email problems that are likely internal and not the fault of the Sender, we're THRILLED with this machine. Just this morning - I logged in, selected my scan settings, and scanned four pages in less than 30 seconds. By the time I put the dust cover back on the machine and returned to my office (10' away), my scan was in my email Inbox. This unit allows various image/quality/output settings AND has a pull-out keyboard (we found it almost by accident) so that you can type in your login info instead of tapping letters on the screen! I can't say enough, it is the best office equipment purchase made in our office since our IBM Correcting Selectric Typewriter! REALLY! 1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good sender, but one common issue. By Lavado Townsend We just got about 5 of these on base. The job I have is pretty much troubleshooting and fixing hardware/software issues with computers and select peripherals (including digital senders). After setting up 3 of these two of them started having the same problem with emailing color documents. Every page after the second shows up in blue (i assume them to be negatives of the actual images). I checked online and this seems to be one of the largest problems plaguing this otherwise really decent digital sender. The fix is to re-calibrate it but it seems to only work half the time. Im still currently troubleshooting because recalibrating it didn't work for me but it seem to had work for most people. Other than this the digital sender is pretty reliable and simple to use. If you don't want to send in color then just set it to black/white and it should send fine. See all 2 customer reviews...

Good idea, but crappy results By Adam Long The idea of a device to let you create digital versions of old photos is great; however, this unit falls short in execution. The resulting digital photos are of very poor quality compared to the original prints; a scan of the photo on my cheap all-in-one printer creates a much better digital image. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, the images created include the plastic frame used to hold the photos in the device--cropping that out probably negates any time you might save by using this. The photo-editing software that comes with this device is garbage and crashed all three computers I tried to use it on. However, as this is a TWAIN-compliant device, you can use you favorite photo-editing program (Photoshop, GIMP, etc.) to pull the images to your computer (still have to install the device driver). Summary: Save your money and just use a flatbed scanner. 113 of 122 people found the following review helpful. limited and possibly dangerous to old photo's By A Reader First off, let me say I am flatbed scanner impaired. I simply cannot seem to scan a bed of photo's without getting fingerprints, dust and pet hair on the bed. I spend more time cleaning the bed then scanning. Then, after I finally get a decent scan free of those things, spending more time separating and rotating the images drives me nuts. I looked at scanning old photo's as a chore that I hated. So, when I saw this, I was as excited as a kid on Christmas eve, this was the answer to my prayers! It was short lived. First impressions- it is made of plastic and weighs about 1/2 lb, if that. It's so lightweight I'm afraid that if my cat crawled on it it would crack. I had no problem installing the driver, but chose not to install the Photoimpression 6 software it comes with as I have many others that are better. If it's connected to the computer, it's on. If you don't want it on, you have to unplug it from the computer. There's no on/off button. The first problem came when I tried to scan an old photo from the 1970's. I have boxes of photo's from this era taken with camera's of that era--Polaroids, Brownies and Instamatics. None of these work with this scanner. The photo must slide into one of the frames (it comes with three frames of set sizes). So when I put a square photo from an old Instamatic camera into a rectangular frame, it fell out inside the scanner. Luckily, the scanner is so light I held it upside down and it fell out. I'm sure I can make some sort of frame for the frame to hold these other sized photos, but we're back to a hassle of then having to crop that out as it only scans the set sizes of the set frames. The next issue for me came when I then went and found a correct sized photo for the frame. The frame is hard plastic. There is a slot on the top and you slide the photo through the slot and down into the frame. And when I did so, all the hairs on the back of my neck stood up as I imagined how many scratches and nicks this was causing to a 25 year old photo. I spend hours correcting image flaws just from storage in old magnetic albums and boxes, the thought of adding more damage to them trying to get them in and out of a frame was not thrilling. I have many graphic programs that will import scanned images so I did not install the Photoimpression 6 software that was included. But when I tried importing in PSP, PS, Vue Scan, and even with the basic Scanner wizard in XP, I got not only the image, but the frame that held it as well. The screen shots in the users manual didn't have the frame showing so I then went back and installed PhotoImpression. For some reason I don't get, using this software does remove the frame from the finished image. But it sure would be easier to have it import into the program I use to fix and scrap with. Bottom line is that all those photo's taken for decades prior to my first 35mm camera, will still

The software is a dream compared to the HP2150 I returned in order to get this. I got the HP because it had built in wireless/ethernet print server and a fax. But the software bundle is all or nothing, they didn't separate out the printer driver...so anyone who wants to just print on the thing must first install 1.5gb (thats GIGabytes) of crap the infects your registry like a cancer. This Epson RX600's software is a dream. They separated everything! Just want to print occasional black and white like me, driver is just 8mb. Want everything and do photo touchups and crazy things and photo albums and scan (like my wife) - just put in the cd and add what you want one app at a time. That's why we went with this printer and returned the HP. Also, one more plus is that the RX600 scans old negatives and can print them perfectly or digitize them for you forever - the HP can't. I LOVE this feature (and yes, it's a combo of mechanical and software differences that achieve this, I dare you to try on another machine). I do miss the HP's built in print server. I bought a Linksys Wireless-G for USB2.0, and it won't work with this printer. Epson wrote me back and confirmed this. This is why I docked this review by a star. You MUST be able to run your printers from a print server. My 4 year old HPLaserJet3150 hooked up no problem, but my new Epson fails? That sucks, and if my wife didn't love this so much, I would send it back strictly for that reason. I do like how it's USB 2.0, it is fast. Separate color tanks (...)are sweet, not like HP where if blue runs out, you're forced to buy all other colors again. This has 6 color tanks all independently replaceable. Nice.PROS: USB2.0, individual color tanks, scan negatives,LCD screen, front loading usb input for cameras, built in card reader on the front, great b/w quality, killer photo print quality, minimal/incremental/customizable software/driver install (extremely flexible and lightweight)CONS: doesn't work w/ LinkSys print servers 73 of 76 people found the following review helpful. Epson RX600 - A standalone photo lab in a box! By A Customer I have had my RX600 for a couple of weeks now, and think it is amazing. WITHOUT USING A COMPUTER, you can copy B&W or color documents that look fine and come out pretty soon after you push the button. However, when printing PHOTOS, this thing is LOTS better than Kodak's printing system in drug stores. It reads virtually any memory card. It reads cameras, CD's, and hard drives via USB on front. It scans color slides, negatives, B&W negatives and makes FANTASTICALLY RICH prints from them. With the tilting color LCD on the front you can crop and zoom photos before printing. It can scan or copy to CD's, memory cards, USB flash, etc, using its front USB port. Also has a Bluetooth adapter option that plugs in the same USB port.Amazing feature: Print thumbnail preview sheets and blacken circles under pictures you want. Stick these sheets in the scanner and it prints out only your choices! Naturally it's a great computer printer and scanner. You want to fax? Use it with your computer's modem. 67 of 73 people found the following review helpful. Quality all in one device! By 6229er There are hundreds of products I could (or should) have reviewed. Some good, some bad. This is the first one I have ever felt strongly enough to comment on.Being in the IT field I have always been skeptical of "all in one devices". However, after doing some research this is typical of those devicesPros:(1) It's photocopier - plain and simple. With or without the PC. Color, BW, enlarge, reduce, zoom - all the features of regular coper.(2) Digital camera support - memory card or USB cable. Images can be viewed and printed directly - again, without a PC(3) Ease of setup. Very easy to follow directions. Step by step. It works as advertised

I had an older HP scanner that died after scanning thousands of documents, so I naturally looked to upgrade to a newer HP model. This thing is terrible. It worked fine for about a week, but then I started getting errors in the scans. Soon after that the scanner began freezing up regularly and then it ceased to work altogether. I went to the HP web site looking for a patch, and what do you know? A lot of people have been having the same trouble and they had a software patch that would supposedly fix the problem. Unfortunately the patch doesn't help. At this point, the scanner works about 1 in every 10 tries. It usually freezes up, which then requires a total reboot of Windows. I've managed to get 3 things scanned this morning in about 30 minutes. This scanner is headed for the garbage if a new patch isn't available soon. Update: I have now downloaded SIX PATCHES from HP's web site and the scanner appears to be working. Obviously it is the software that is incompatible with the combination of Windows XP and various other imaging programs I have loaded on my computer (HP warns about this). I have software for Canon and Fuji digital cameras, so they may be the culprit. In any case, I still wouldn't recommend this scanner given the compatibility issues that come with it. 2nd Update: It is now two months since I posted my original review and I definitely stand by it. I continue to have problems making this thing work right. It's so frustrating whenever I want to scan a document to keep an electronic record of something and I have to shut down my computer or start and stop the scanner. I can usually make it work, but it is NEVER simple and ALWAYS time consuming. Another Update: Today has been pretty typical of what it's like to try and use this awful scanner. I had six documents to scan. The first three scanned fine. The scanner locked up on the 4th one. Had to reboot and start over (it erased the first 3 scans). This time I scanned 3 documents, stopped and saved everything, then went to my other 3 documents. Now it locked up on the 2nd document. Keep in mind, when it locks up, you can't cancel the job. You have to reboot and start over. By the way, the error message I got told me to reinstall the software yet again. I'm wondering how many of the patches are included in the latest version of the software because I seem to add at least one patch every week. Final Update: The scanner was destroyed by office workers angry that it failed to perform even the simplest of tasks. Rumor has it that it was thrown from a 3rd floor balcony and then run over repeatedly with a delivery truck. In any case, this was the worst piece of electronic equipment I have seen in 20 years. We connected it to state-of-the-art computers and it was remarkably awful on a very consistent basis. Sorry HP, you're not what you used to be. Canon anyone? 24 of 25 people found the following review helpful. Design Defect in Make Copy Mode. By J. Parker The make copy button on the front of the scanner and in the software does not work properly. In my case it makes copies only in draft mode. After getting the runaround from tech support, and even exchanging the scanner for a new one, tech support admitted to me that "make copy" doesn't work. In some cases it prints nothing, in others it just prints in draft. The gave me a "workaround." Scan it as a picture, then tell it to go directly to the printer. But then the copies don't look like the originals. What really makes me made is that they must have known this all the time, and they just wasted my time and tried to wear me down. I'm returning mine and buying another brand. 17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Multiple failures By Michael J. Dietz I have approximately 10,000 slides to scan. Mac user By Video game player This mouse was great for the price and the only negative i have is that the scroll button kind of squeaks when you use it. The mouse is awesome because it is one of the only white ones and the other ones by mac are much more. This mouse is also very sensitive, so you might find your self turning down the sensitivity on your settings. Pros. Matches the MAC and smooth. Cons. Scoll button squeaks and you will have to turn down the responce sensitivity. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Optical Corded Mouse By Wicker The mouse is just what I expected it to be and works like it should. I like the fact that it "isn't" wireless. I had one of those and prefer the corded mouse. Grosh My former scanner by Microtek was difficult to set up and did not work until I searched for hours in the documentation and on Microtek's web site and finally found a rather complicated answer. I still have to apply the "fix" to any computer I use the Microtek scanner with. In contrast, the Epson Perfection 1200 USB Scanner was a breeze to set up. I just plugged the USB cable in with my computer already on, turned the scanner on and Windows 98 detected the scanner and the "Add Driver" wizard came up. Just point that to your CD drive to load the drivers and that's it.The scanner is very fast and quiet. The twain interface is as good or better then any I've seen. The quality of the scans is top-notch across the board, from color to contrast to shadow depth.I choose this scanner based on a ZdNet review of Epson's 636 USB scanner which won their editors choice award. They said it works especially well with Epson Color printers which I found to be the case too. With a hardware resolution 1200 x 2400 dpi, the Epson Perfection 1200 USB scanner has higher optical resolution than any other scanner in it's price range. It's a real bargain.Tips: Whatever graphics program you use, set up an ICM color profile. Or use the ICM profile of your monitor. Adobe Photoshop comes with a utility to do this. Then in the twain interface of your scanner click the "Use ICM" check box. Then your scans will look more like the originals when viewed on-screen. If you have an Epson printer (I have the Stylus Color 740), when you print choose the "Epson Stylus Color 740" profile from the "color space" list. If you have another printer it should show up in the list too. This info is for printing from Photoshop, but other graphics programs should be similar.Scans printed from my Epson printer look almost identical to the original including color tone and depth.I use this scanner primarily for professional web design and personal photograph reproduction.Overall it's just a great scanner and I'm very happy with it. 81 of 82 people found the following review helpful. Windows 2000 drivers actually work, scanner a beauty! By John W. Anderson I needed a scanner that worked in Windows 2000, and decided to take a chance - based on other reviews posted here - with the Epson Perfection 1200U. The short of it is, the scanner worked right out of the box. Setup was easy, the Windows 2000 drivers I downloaded from Epson's web site installed without a glitch, and the software bundled with the scanner can't be beat. I was especially delight to find included the Presto PageManager, which is a kind of ACDSee thumbnail browser (with myriad other functions), and with it's Presto!Wrapper utility, which saves your image in a self-executing file to send to friends who might not have imaging software. Very cool. The scanner is also the fastest I've owned, and the Twain software for scanning is multi-configurable for auto-sizing, exposing, et al of your image. Very very nice. I'm very very pleased with this scanner, especially after I had bought an Acer 620U on the sole basis of its supposedly being Windows 2000 ready - only to find (to my horror and frustration) that the drivers for the Acer were bug-ridden and conflicted with my USB Iomega Zip Drive. I also had a Mustek 600II-CD, but had to give it the boot when Mustek said they weren't planning on supporting Windows 2000. So you can imagine my delight when the Epson Perfection 1200U not only worked right off the bat, but proved to be an unbeatlable value for the money considering the superior bundled software (Presto! PageManager, Adobe PhotoDeluxe, Broderbund Print Shop Press Writer, and ArcSoft's PhotoPrinter). Further, the scanner is fast, quiet, the quality of the image output is excellent, and there are other features I haven't even begun to explore. Easy and simple

I'm very impressed with the quality of the scans, the colors are acurate and the detail is excellent as well. I also tried the negative adapter and it worked great. The software that comes with the scanner is the best part. You can put a photo in the middle of the scanner, press the scan button on the scanner and it determines the orientation correctly (even if the photo is not perfectly straight). It's as close to "unattended" as you can get; you just have to swap the photos. I use it in combination with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 and use the "batch processing" feature to name and save all the scanned photos at once. This job would be unmanageble on my old scanner, a CanoScan 620U. I did have a problem with the first unit I bought being defective. I left it plugged in overnight and it was dead in the morning. I was happy enough with the results and low price to buy another one. 39 of 40 people found the following review helpful. Good scanner, but not for film. By M. L. This scanner was excellent for scanning pictures and images, but did poorly with 35mm negatives. The color was dull and had a brown tint to it. In comparison to the Canon Lide80, the film scan was terrible. This is a GREAT scanner if you do not wish to scan film. 14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Good for light use By T. Milke For a $100 scanner, I didn't expect high quality scans. What I did get out of it was a lot better than I expected. Most of the detail in photographs and documents came out pretty good. Hey, it does photos, slides, negatives, and works great with my Mac. That sold me right there. Not everything is perfect though. When using the text "interpreter", it has a tendency to turn blemishes (fold lines, scratches) on the paper, into strange text, and unreadable ascii characters. It's not too much of a pain, as it's usually pretty easy to clean up with a text editor. When doing negatives, it does not reliably scan all the images on the negative. I've had to scan some several times to get the image that I wanted. This thing is also slow. We're talking slooow here. I haven't used that many scanners, but all the ones I've used have been lightning fast compared to this one. It took 3 and a half minutes just to do a simple document copy (scanner straight to printer). There are times when a document or photo won't scan completely (the edges are cut off). I can solve this problem most of the time, by putting a colored sheet of paper behind whatever I'm scanning, and edit that part out in photoshop. On the bright side, I've never had a problem doing slides. I can put three or four photos on the glass, and the scanner will turn them into seperate documents for each. Orientation doesn't matter either, just use the built in software to reorient the picture. (yes, it works on Macs too). If you're just starting out, and need something inexpensive, for light work, this will satisfy your needs. If you are going to do a lot of scanning, then you'll probably want something speedier. This isn't the greatest thing in the world, but it satisfies my needs. See all 16 customer reviews...

That said, do not believe the printed literature for the included items. The package supposedly contains a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements. What it doesn't tell you is the included version is 10.4 which is at least five years old and is no longer supported by Adobe. This version will not work on the latest MAC OS. If you call Canon the answer is, "tough luck", there is nothing they will do. Adobe will only tell you that there is a new version that you can buy for $99.00 available on their web-site. Oh, also when I tried to install the package it came back and told me that the supplied software had already been registered. (The disk came from a factory sealed box). This was confirmed by Adobe and they said there was nothing they could do. Canon's response was you'll have to work that out with Adobe. The best I can say is, don't believe anything in print from Canon, It's a good scanner. Plan on buying your own copy of the Elements.CanoScan 8800F Flatbed Scanner, 4800 x 9600dpi 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Needs to rest By K. E. Perrins Scans great!. However after 2 or 3 scans I get a black streak in the results and some parts of the scanned slide are missing. This happens if I do several scans before doing any editing, but if I spent some time doing the editing before scanning, the scans are okay. So, do not scan scan scan edit, instead do scan, edit, scan, edit, scan edit, etc. 2 of 5 people found the following review helpful. More than capable of meeting your basic scanning needs By Daniel Jolley I was recently given the task of selecting a flatbed scanner for public use in an academic setting. We didn't need anything fancy - just a good flatbed scanner with which patrons can scan photos and text documents. The main criteria I focused on were reliability, cost, OCR capabilities, and easy of use. Since I will be supporting any patrons with questions or problems using this scanner, I wanted a unit that would be as simple as possible to use. The designated PC has sufficient but not an extraordinary amount of memory, so I didn't want to go for extremely high resolution capabilities, either. After looking long and hard at a variety of choices from leading producers, I chose the HP Scanjet 4070 Photosmart Scanner. Truth be told, it really wasn't that hard of a decision in the end. The HP Scanjet 4070 seemed to have everything I was looking for as well as some additional capabilities we don't really need but which could possibly be of use in the future. This sassy little convertible features a Photo Door which allows for the rapid scanning of 4 x 6 photos as well as the scanning of 35 mm slides and negatives. More importantly, it seemed to offer some of the most impressive OCR capabilities among the flatbed scanner candidates I was evaluating. Happily, the unit has lived up to its promises so far, doing a wonderful job of scanning text into an editable format with its Integrated I.R.I.S. Readiris OCR software - errors have been few and far between in this regard. No OCR software is perfect, but this does seem to do one whale of a job. The optical resolution of this scanner is 2400 dpi, and the color is 48-bit; these settings meet our needs quite well. Our scanner's intended purpose does not involve high resolution scanning and advanced photo editing. The HP Image Zone software provides more than enough photo editing capabilities for us, such as the ability to remove red-eye problems automatically and easily breathe visual life into old, faded photographs. Unless you're doing some serious graphics design, Image Zone should have everything you need. The HP Scanjet 4070 also comes with ArcSoft Collage Creator software. We don't have any real need for this particular program, but it's a nice extra and can be fun to play with. This scanner is pretty darn simple to use, I'm happy to say. The HP Director software provides an easy-to-use interface to all scanning options, and the front button panel on the scanner itself allows for basically one-touch access to the most common functions. The only way this scanner could be simpler to use would be for those buttons to actually spell out Scan Photo, Scan Document, etc. As it is, though, the icons on the front button panel are essentially self-explanatory. I can't really comment on the scanning quality of slides and negatives, since that is a capability we have no use for at this time, but the HP Scanjet 4070 does a wonderful job scanning photos and, as I have mentioned, a very impressive job of scanning documents into editable text. Finally, this scanner could hardly be simpler to set up and install. USB makes everything easy. Install the software, hook up everything on the scanner, then plug the scanner into an available USB port on your PC, and you're ready to rock and roll. I personally had no trouble installing the included software, and I tested everything on my own Dell PC with Windows XP Pro before setting the scanner up at its permanent home connected to a HP PC running Windows 2000. If you're looking for a flatbed scanner to do basic scanning of photos and text, I think you would be wise to include this particular model in your list of candidates. 41 of 42 people found the following review helpful. It's fast (both in scanning and transfering to the PC), quiet, and has superb scan quality, esp. on 35mm negatives. (I haven't tried scanning 35mm slide films.) Setting the 4200F up is pretty much a breeze, assuming you have Windows XP. (Windows 98 users will need to follow the instructions very carefully.) You first install the software -- the scanner driver and the scan toolbar (called "toolbox") are the only programs necessary for using the scanner; the other applications (photo editing, OCR and Adobe Acrobat) are optional. After restarting your machine (so the scanner driver loads and runs as a service), just connect the USB 2.0 hi-speed cable, and you are set to go. Using the scanner is also quite simple. You can scan in three ways: directly from your photo organizing or editing program (assuming it supports the universal TWAIN interface, which most imaging programs worth their pennies do); using the Canon Scan Toolbox; or pressing one of the four buttons on the scanner itself, which calls up the toolbox and automatically initiates a scan. The four buttons are: - Copy. Your PC must be connected to a powered-on printer for this to work. When you press copy, the Canon scans and sends the file directly to your printer. - Scan. This is the button for scanning. When you press it, the Canon scans and sends the scanned image to your designated photo editing program, which you specify once via the toolbox. (This button corresponds to the "Scan 1" icon on the toolbox.) - PDF. This turns the scanned image into a PDF file. - E-mail. This button scans and then calls up Outlook Express or Outlook with the image embedded as a JPEG attachment. The toolbox (toolbar) has more options for scanning. All are pretty straightforward. Each option can be configured in detail, or you can specify that all the settings be done in the driver itself. (The toolbox is simply an interface to the driver.) If you configure things in the driver, you'll even be able to adjust how the scanned image should look, in terms of color, contrast, sharpness, etc., etc. The options are endless, but in the beginning, using the toolbox makes scanning a breeze and less intimidating. One thing cool about the Canon is how it makes it easy to understand what resolution you should scan in. First, the 4200F is capable of 3200x6400 dpi (dots per inch). The 3200 dpi is its true optical resolution; that's how much fine details it can detect. The second number, 6400 dpi, refers to its "stepping" levels, which basically means the sensor can sample each inch 6400 times, but only detects up to 3200 dots. When you scan, the Canon asks you what *output* resolution and size you want, and then calculates the necessary input resolution for you. Say you are scanning a 4x6" photo but want to be able to print it 4 times as large (or twice the width and length, i.e., 8x12") and print at 300 dpi. The Canon will then automatically set the correct scan resolution of 600 dpi -- which is twice as much as printing 4x6 at 300 dpi. So you'll get a 2400x3600 file in pixels, which can then be printed at 8x12" at 300 dpi (2400/8=3600/12=300dpi). This concept of specifying output resolution rather than worrying about input resolution works esp. well for scanning negatives. Say you are scanning a 35mm negative. It'd be a pain to figure out which scanning resolution is best. But if you know you'd eventually want to print a 4x6" photo in 200 dpi, just tell the driver so, and the driver will do all the work for you and scan properly. Another feature I love is multi-scan, which lets you scan in several pictures at once and the driver automatically separates them. Here's how I use my 4200F: I set up the scan button so it's linked to Adobe Photoshop Elements 3's organizer. (You can link the button to any

By Method2Madness "Alex" Before I start, I just want to emphasize that I have been in the IT industry for about 15 years and consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable about PC and PC peripherals. This DOESNT mean that I'm infallible, just simply that I know what to look for in a device. Now onto the review... It was time to replace my tired HP Photosmart 7260, although still working and doing a great job, I may add, I wanted something, well.... different. So, I decided to delve into the AIO(All In One) category. I initally started with an open box HP 2355 from Sears and was initally pleased as punch. Decent print speeds, wonderful photo and text output and an awe-inspiring design. However my happiness was short-lived. Apparently there was a reason it was an "open box" and priced so cheap. It was defective. Continuous banding, horrible color output after sitting a few hours, etc. So, much to my dismay I took it back and decided to stick with my PS 7260 until I could afford a high-end AIO. Well the time came to purchase and I shopped around, read numerous reviews and finally picked up an Epson AIO cx6600. For those of you who havent tried this printer, its MORE than worth the money!!! Excellent speed, nice look and good print quality. All out of a 4 ink tank system! However, I just could not settle with this device(Nothing really wrong with this AIO except that I could not settle for the 4 color pigmanet-based print engine) and decided to return the 6600 in favor of the 6 color, dye-based RX620. I'm glad I did. Heres why: 1.) Print speeds seem to be on par with the cx6600 (Which has decently high ratings for speed). 2.) Photo quality is among the best I have EVER seen. This AIO is on par with the high dollar, 8 color dedicated photo printers. With Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper and a high-resolution image(i.e 4-5 MP high-end camera), you almost have to have a microscope to detect ANY dithering or banding. I have printed everything from 4x6 prints up to 8.5x11 and continue to be blown away by the quality. And I have a VERY keen eye for imperfections!!! 3.) Contrary to some reviews, text DOES appear sharp and crisp. Print speeds arent super-fast, but will suffice for most applications. 4.) Copy and scan quality are among the best Ive seen from an AIO. This is probably attributed to the excellent print engine and over the top scanner. I copied an older film photo on the photo setting(NOT best photo) and could not believe my eyes. The printer has the ability to restore old photos and I'm here to tell you...IT WORKS!! An adapter is included to scan negatives and slides as well, which I have not had a chance to play with as of yet. 5.) Setup and operation are a breeze! Even printing sans computer could not be easier. The full-color LCD is very informative and easy to use! 6.) Bonus features! You can even scan directly to a memory card, or backup to a Jump Drive/CD-RW directly connected to the printer!! 7.) Its relatively quiet! Much quieter than most of the HP's that I have used. Everyone complains about the lack of a fax, but I do NOT see this as a fault! It is designed to be a home-based photo center. You CAN scan to fax with the included software, however and I found it to work as advertised. CONS: All in all, I have a hard time finding faults in this AIO and I'm REALLY looking. But there are a few irritations(Not really faults) 1.) The USB cable is attached to the machine from INSIDE the lid. You have to raise the lid to install the cable, which is fed to the back via a path notched out. Kind of crazy, but not a big problem. 2.) Epson thought it to be a good idea to put a product sticker on the top, which almost covers the entire lid. This includes the shiny black oval/oblong area that gives the RX620 a handsome look. When the sticker is removed, residue is left on the shiny part and is ridiculously difficult

Patterson I have now been using this printer/scanner for over two weeks. This replaces an old HP multifunction device which had problems with my Mac when printing over the network. I work from home and have several computers running, Vista, XP and OSX and wanted them to share a printer/scanner. I must admit the driver setup is not the cleanest, and I needed to download versions newer than on the supplied disk to enable printing from 64bit applications on the mac. The only setup I got stuck on was that it is not clear that you need to have the printer connected by USB to create the initial connection to a secure wi-fi network. Now that its up an running it works a dream enabling me to print and scan from any computer anywhere in the house. The scanning is decent (I don't have a huge quality need, but I can't complain about anything I've scanned), the printing is stunning. Colors are accurate for photos and the double sided printing is a great paper saver for general printing. The only things which I feel could improve this device, for my purposes, are a document feeder for bulk scanning and a built in fax capability. 60 of 60 people found the following review helpful. Well worth the price! By Chris Before I had this printer I purchased a Kodak All-in-one. The one that advertises lab quality prints at half the price. It worked really well the first month of having it. After that I have never been more frustrated with an electronic device. It's main issues were a design flaw in the print head, noisy operation, inks didn't last very long, paper feed problems, bad software, and it wouldn't let me print photos on anything other than kodak paper. So after replacing the print head three times I called it quits and decided I wanted something I could count on. Enter the Canon MP980. This printer was twice as expensive as the kodak, but worth every penny. The prints are AMAZING, and 4x6 Photos print faster than any printer I've ever used. There is also a dedicated Gray Ink cartridge allowing for true gray scale/Black & White photo prints. Printing is completely effortless. Everything just works. Setup was a breeze. I can replace each ink individually (not that I've had to yet). It has all the basic features like multi flash memory card reader, pic bridge, separate try for regular paper and photo paper, double sided printing and then some advanced features. Such as "quiet" mode. Optional blue-tooth, and built in Wi-Fi. BIG LCD. Connecting wirelessly is made easy. The scanner is fully functional and in addition to doing all the basics, it will do film and negatives as well. It also features LED's so there is no "warm up" time. Although a message will show up saying to stand by for the scanner to warm up but it's only for about 1 second. Things I thought are a nice touch. The standard paper tray slides inside the printer. When in a Standby mode, all the trays and openings to the printer are closed. When you execute a print, the door where the paper exits, opens automatically. There is no worry of things inside the printer getting dusty. The software bundled with the printer is really nice, straight forward, and works well. So far, no problems. I couldn't be happier with this amazing machine. Of course nothing is perfect. I thought it might be neat to print directly on DVD's like some other printers do, not with this one. It's largest borderless photo print is only 8.5" x 11". When turned on for the first time of the day, it goes through a priming routine where it gets the ink tanks and print head ready (I'm assuming). The process could take up to a minute. My biggest gripe is that the photo paper try loads from the rear. When you want to print from specialty paper you have to pull open the tray. It doesn't store paper inside like the standard paper tray. So when you want to print photos, you have to
