By Saurin Canon has some fantastic optics for scanning photos. It is the Epson. I wanted to scan photos now and then and maybe old archive photos, optical image was so important. Canon, known for great digital cameras, has the same quality scanners. Why in 3170? It is half the price, smaller (about 1 / 3 high) sees and looks great. It is about four 4x6 photos on the scanner, dpi with the multi-scan with 600 and works very well. However, sometimes I think the auto-crop could be better. It took a whole 5 minutes to configure and use. He did not need a separate power supply because it uses USB for power. Its quiet and fast. I've done over 600 scans so far. Works like a charm.
