The best part is that it actually fits in my case, my laptop computer with the Targus. It weighs only 2-3 PDS, and fled without a USB power brick converter --- to carry around. The scans are sharp and fast. The automatic settings work very well for almost all of the familiar original (old photos, business letters, receipts, etc..) Despite some flaws, the price and portability can be outstanding in this series of scanners of choice for scanning books --- books to be scanned because the rumors are often not in libraries or archives. OPENINGS Unfortunately, the particular design of this scanner (and all other LED-based scanners) is that (unlike many desktop scanners fat), you can scan 3D objects. Any part of the document or image that is not in contact with the absolute Patten glass will be very blurry. The proposed framework raises the edges of the original Patten does not fit the glass, making the edges of images to be blurred, this is particularly a problem when scanning books. Nor can simply press harder --- that surrounds the glass, causing blurred vision in the other parts of the hand, and can also damage the scanning mechanism. However, these problems can be solved using the strategies discussed below. The cover is not removable, which means you can be unlucky if you need to scan part of a large object. The program is diverse, confusing and difficult to configure their best. Warning, I have used at least three brands of scanner software, none of which were well designed. From strangely named "MP Navigator" I suggest checking the box "Use the scanner driver" to open the "Advanced Settings" - or better yet, scan your graphics (image editing) software. But even if the image is a problem, it is lower (1 / 16 ") and smaller (8.3") than most other scanners, and so, so scanning books is less of a problem than most other scanners. CHOOSING between the hardware models and "Advanced" part of the program scan LiDE all models (at least 90 to 210 models) seems to be identical. The main differences between the models is 1) improvements in the functions of automatic scanning, and 2) the scan speed rating (which apparently is controlled by software). Despite the statistics above, there is little practical difference between the models in the scanning speed. The "slower" models are quieter, and I suspect it is more reliable. Since I only use the "Advanced Settings" (not the automatic settings), the 110 is my preference, regardless of price. Canon CanoScan LiDE110 Color Image Scanner (4507B002) The 210 may be better for children and other people who never learn to use the "Advanced Settings", and that claims to have automated scan the top 210 can be a little faster when scanning small and unique / or low resolution. Canon CanoScan LiDE210 Color Image Scanner (4508B002) If you are scanning books and that the scanner will carry around a lot, you might consider a Canon LiDE 700. It has two main advantages. The right bank is actually flush with the surface of the glass (hurrah! !)--- although there is still a very wide margin. The lid opens 180 degrees, so you can review the parts of a large object - even though there is a "border problem" other three edges. Canon CanoScan LiDE 700F Color Image Scanner (3297B002) scan books is easy to scan books that are at least ½ margin "between the print and spine. Put the right side of the scanner to the edge of a table so that the book is open at 90 degrees when you set the scanner to a moderate weight placed on the original (eg a 1 "thick book). If you must then press with your fingers , press the edges of the glass surface (or better yet, in the corners), not in the middle. If you do not really in.
