Most helpful customer reviews 298 of 303 people found the following review helpful. Epson V300 scanner W. Crews Giles Epson V300 Photo RATINGS I can only give five stars if I compare with my using a different scanner - but I strongly suspect such a comparison would not change my opinion on this point. I'm happy, and it exceeds all my expectations. That is why four stars and probably five. USE I had two goals for a scanner: My main task is to sell out the long history and many rare and theological texts to keep making them available to other researchers and scientists - who needs a flatbed. The second was to preserve and share old photos. Twenty-four hours ago I bought this device has led to this selection of reviews and finally decided on the basis of LED scanning technology, portability, price, and the included software. It cost me more than twenty U.S. dollars (about 100 in all) for the V300, which I think is the same as the V30, V300, except for the inclusion of a 35 mm film and slide into the frame that I think may be useful for me I MODE Don 't know why they use words that do to use templates. They should be: the photo mode, text mode, automatic mode and professional mode. Instead, the image is called "Home", the text is called "Office" Auto and professional are what you think. The menus are intuitive, but you can (like me) to read the manual, if you want. PHOTO I started with the photos. Resolution of 300 dpi is sufficient for my needs, but I tried 1200 to see what he would do. 1200 is using 400% of the original, and using this parameter, and zoom using the common software images, the detail is far beyond my expectations - almost like a thriller to enlarge the subject glasses to see the reflection of photographer. Almost. This is way beyond my needs, I like the preservation of photos as they are - even photoshopping for improvement ... RESTORATION I could not resist trying the automatic restoration. I started with the default setting of 300 dpi, which is across the board I use now - just because it is more than adequate for my use. I have family photos in black and white from the 1890s, and I had the original to see in bright light on a detail to do, so it was blurred. Seconds later, the preview image in the "Home" mode "(see above) and leave the default" color ", a perfectly balanced contrast showed, could the details pop my eyes undetectable in the original. Excellent. I then 1941 I took a color photograph, and the bodies left in "Home Mode" 300 dpi, and "restoring colors" checked. The original color was distorted, almost no red left. One press of the button and the picture blew II believe that must have been the original colors. Excellent. The test of the last photo was a picture of me where the lightning out of my skin appear pasty white when I'm actually quite Tan I take the professional mode and played with the controls, had a little red and green for the elimination intuitive graphical display for this purpose, and playing with other controls for a few seconds in a very good final product. Scanning text of entire books as PDF files is my main use. But I tried it. OLD CUT NEWSPAPWER My first attempt was a newspaper clipping taken ninety years. The use of "desktop" mode, I have nothing but the preview and scan it. The software does work and maybe a minute later I opened the PDF with Acrobat (the free version) and the image was an exact copy. I used the selection tool to select text in Acrobat, the entire article and paste it into MS Word. Provided OCR software (ABBYY FineReader Sprint Plus) had done a fair job for a free product and packaging ink mottle original file (like all the headlines in the days of the hose) was terrible as it was perfectly readable pdf. The ability to search listing to find words and phrases that are easily seen in the version that I copied the pdf y.
